28th february 2007 lost thoughts can't be found

how do you retrieve a lost thought? if you lose things, at least you could hope to find them, by looking around in places you think you've gone to, but thoughts? how do you find, recall a thought that you thought?

a thought slipped my mind, about something i should've blogged last night, but forgotten. i have a few candidates, but the actual thought might not be any of them.

i want to bring to note that Charles was such a rock, the Cephas-Peter-rock, not the ordinary, rock, but a spiritual rock. and i pray that he be lifted up...

i might've wanted to blog about God's purpose in camp, that i'm here and nowhere else in order to learn something. (during shower last night)

that camp shouldn't be seen solely as a spiritual graveyard, that christians can still grow in the Lord and in the spirit, (composed in camp, not likely)

another thought almost slipped past, that all the books i'm reading might turn out to be a grounding for being an apologist, defending the faith for beginners. (that was monday, talking to rui qiang)

it might've been any of these thoughts, not sure which... it might be the first mentioned, it might be none at all.. haha. too bad lost thoughts can't be found...

27th february 2007 - a couple of things

right now, i am viewing a propaganda film made by the military, broadcast on tv, about the 3rd generation military. oh come on, please...

all of these may look good on tv, but who knows what will happen when reality strikes? hmm. i wonder what happens when electromagnetic weapons do become feasible...hmm... intelligent systems become just dead metal. besides, all of these are just what they are, propaganda, and so, only the good points will be shown, and the bad points shoved aside in order to show the public how polished the 3rd generation military is. thanks, for showing me how the military is improving to kill people.

ironically, the more intelligent the system, the more capable it is in making even greater catastrophic mistakes... could all these be just a form of envy manifest, that all because i'm stuck in a low-tech corner i make all these rants?

---

meanwhile, its really that easy to fall. all it takes is really just a wrong topic, and everything can just go downhill from there. sigh. God forgive me. sigh. but more than everything else, i'm glad today. i'm glad that i took the first step to things in setting up the prayer meeting. and i must thank charles for being a spiritual anchor.

and some cool idea about illustrating the passages from the Bible, visualising the imageries, would be kinda cool, hee.

hmm.. it really is difficult. how low should a person go, in order to mix with the target audience, but not too low as to become like them? it is not easy to draw the line. in order to communicate with people, you have to find things and topics to relate to them, in order not to be alienated and scare the audience off. but then again, we are all humans; its too easy to make a mistake. i need wisdom and clarity of spirit...

---

SOC was fine. at least the reflexes were still there, though i still had a little issue with the suicide gate. and a major issue with stamina. sigh. gotta do more running. sigh. haha.
---

the period of bliss is ending. soon, it'll back to camp, and all the dull-dreariness will return again. how to make best use of time, how to continue enriching myself, sustaining myself, in spite of the culture and everything... that will be the main challenge, as i go onward...

26th february 2007 - a flurry of thoughts

hee.. was writing a reply to gmail when a torrent of words just came out. it was about a topic i proposed, about rewriting history textbooks, and i suddenly found myself summarising my academic adventures, and i thought it would be make a proper post on its own right.

the sciences, social sciences, economics, does get more difficult, as students climb the academic ladder (provided they want to). yeah, telling students newtonian physics isn't really true, can be kinda disturbing, but i got through with things, and i study quantum mechanics, relativity, with great relish, though i can't understand them. back then, i already knew that most economic theory was just that - theory, and few things hardly ever worked in reality. but then, i got to know game theory and its applications. and as for history and social studies, i thought things were as simple as THAT, but then, reading about the cold war and everything, changed my perspectives of geopolitics.

of course, i hoped more people would understand things in greater detail, with greater nuances, but then again, most people wouldn't care about details anyway, thanks to the tribulations of everyday life, which concern us in a more pressing manner. thats why we like thought-provoking movies, because they make thinking so easier to come by. haha.

anyway, enough of personals. its just that, if history is written (just?) for the sake of nation-building propanganda, we'll see the world with tinted eyes, and look at people with (reinforced?) prejudices. like, for example, most of us, before we understood the meaning of suffering, thought nothing of the atomic bombing of hiroshima, and more controversially, nagasaki, and thus ending the pacific theatre of the world war. but now that i know more, i now really wonder if the atomic bombs were really justified. thinking like that puts things in perspective, and ultimately leads to a more informed populace. there really is no better weapon against ignorance, apathy and insanity (nazism, fascism, salafism?) than knowledge and awareness...

26th february 2007.. back at home, resting my legs, for the ultimate torture of fatigue tomorrow.

hee. tomorrow there's SOC training. and besides field camps, probably the most other tiring thing any NS person has to go through is the SOC...arrh well, that aside, i had a rather surreal and whimsical trip back home on bus 155.

but the telling of that adventure has to come after the following reflections. the conversation/argument/debate with rui qiang left me thinking, that in some sense, i have indeed grown. now that i've known more, i can expound (if i dare use the term) about the faith more. i can better demonstrate the validity of christianity against those who see otherwise. in that sense, i've grown. and all the books that i've been reading, becomes a source of ideas that i can utilise during arguments, and thats value beyond measure. so yeah. i can take today as an encouragement that i've indeed, gone forward, even a little bit, in my spiritual life.

now, the adventure that co-inspires this need to blog.

the old man was seated in front of me, at the turn of windsor hotel, as i see the old man turning his head to and fro, seemingly in great nervousness/anxiety. i presumed this man to be loss, or searching for his destination, or even doubting that he was on the right bus, of if he had missed his stop. so out of kindness, i asked him, where are you going?

he turns to me, half-outraged, half-anger, all-old man, and retorts, where are you going? i knew that it was a rhetorical question, so i didn't answer. then he continues his line of argument and goes, i just wanted to see the windsor hotel. do you know how much its changed? who are the owners? and how it will change?

i didn't answer. he then continues, in that kind of air of superiority that only age can bring, and goes, i've lived here for 70 years, and i know the comings and goings of this place. i'm a singaporean. as we are coming into circuit road, he asks me, do you know the name of the road. obviously he doesn't know english, and many more bus stops later, he tells me, because this road goes in a circuit, its called circuit road (duh...). and then he tells me this area was all kampong, of tall grass, of crickets, of green and red varieties. and then something about the transformation of the area, which i didn't quite catch, but anyway, he then asks me where i stay, and he goes on to tell me that it was all kampong and all good for catching red crickets (for fighting) and green crickets (which don't).

he's now smiling now, in a whimsical fashion, as if talking to a little boy. how, he 60 years ago, was busy catching crickets for fighting among friends. so there's an imagery now in my head, of a yellowed video, of him and some other kids with their matchboxes and fighting crickets...

i dunno... i'm kinda... pensieve, i guess, about this old man, and many more others like him. for people like him, they no longer go through physical distance, but chronological distance, because the distance, the kilometres, the miles, don't matter to him anymore, only the transformation that only time can bring matters to him. i can easily imagine him going through the reels of his own memory, and everything that happened to him... i guess its also loneliness, a reminder of youth when talking to a young person, and all the stuff about crickets. makes my heart crack (not break) for this old man.

if i were to go on, i would had shed tears, and my heart would break. i just hope he has company, wherever he is.

as i go on home, he waves at me, a child-like smile, a wave, as if i was his dear grandson or something... sigh... i guess in old age, the greatest enemies are both loneliness and purposeless, having nothing to live for, and live with...

haha.

26th feb 2007, again citi

26th february 2007 citi

at citi, and i have to book in to camp by tomorrow, where SOC awaits me. this issue aside, the main reason i'm posting an entry here is because i had a rather interesting conversation with rui qiang and wee siang regarding faith, christianity in particular.

rui qiang had a lot of questions, but i guess i manage to answer them, judging from the way he opens his mouth, momentarily stunned by my answers. and i had to draw my answers both from the Bible and from lee strobel's case for a creator...

and he had those ideas which i once had, about translation, interpretation, historical validity. the very same doubts that i once had before i truly committed, and i'm still learning. i guess that conversation with him was cool. in the end, i know that as a christian, its is my duty to lead him to salvation, but at the end, i'm so sorry, he remained unconvinced. as much as i try, i know that i couldn't force. because He gave all of us a choice, simply to believe or not to. we as christians, can only show them the door, but it is still up to them whether to open it. as they say, you can lead the horse to the water, but you can't force the horse to drink the water. whether they want to drink from the water of eternal life, in the end, its still up to them.

some struggles...

and i think i just found 2 out of 5 people whom i can ask to go for, on april 6th. thank you Father.

and cell this friday will be tight. either i can make it, or i'll fail terribly. cos i have guard duty on saturday, which means that i have to book in on friday night. and then i have to go from citi, to home, to bishan again, and then finally, to camp. not sure what my mum will say, but she'll probably forbid me to go to bishan. yeah. this is something to pray about definitely. and to commit to God. so yeah Father, its in Your hands... i commit today, tomorrow, and everyday unto Your hands. amen.

hmm.. realised that there aren't too many days left here in citi, living a near civi life. but thank God for these wonderful days, where i've met charles, which has allowed me the time and space to grow in the Lord. but You'll give me wonderful days ahead, even in camp. so yeah. give thanks and praises! NS doesn't mean waste time, and in camp doesn't mean waste time either. times of testing...

25th february 2007, night-time

hee.. took quite a lot of pics, was fortunate enough to catch the fireworks at marina promenade. haha. there was the irritating tree line on the road. trees are fine in the city, except when they block the views... sigh. arh well. can't always have everything...

and then, i was such a sucker for neo-colonial styles of architecture..

yup, those are the former supreme court and former parliament house. really nice and cool. yeah, those pics need editing to remove the out of place details, but i don't really have the time to edit. one fine day i'll polish these pics...

i've got a mini project which i dunno when to start, its about sketching - do a little bit of art here and there sketching pics... hee...

25th february 2007, yeah! i finally watched iwo jima!

letters from iwo jima is undoubtedly better than flags of our fathers. way better. more emotion, i guess, more feel, about the defenders who died defending their island. more touching - for one more day for their kins to live a day of peace without invasion... doing the right thing just because its right - right for its own sake...

if nothing else, it humanises the japanese - that they are just the same, and should remove most of the stereotypes about japanese during the war, that they were murderous and unhuman, which are just untrue. in war, there's only brutality, and after the first shots are fired, there's really no more moral high ground for either sides. for the sake of convenience, broad strokes are used to cover the nuances. and after everything, people only remember the stereotypes and nothing else.

hmm.. what i think might happen. maybe martin scorcese will get best director, and iwo jima best pic! yeah!

Saturday, February 24, 2007

24th february 2007

sigh. didn't catch iwo jima today. shouldn't have said 'yes' to coming home for dinner. now i have to wait for... aargh! next week i do guard duty! sigh... oh well. maybe tomorrow or something like that... arh well.

went for a seminar because kenneth lo asked me to go. so i did, and spent close to 2 hours hearing the guy talk about investment. ok. so i now have a better idea where to put my money, so thank you kenneth. but other than that, there wasn't much else. in short, it was another dull rotting decaying day. sigh... but everything aside, being the sucker that i am, i ended up watching pearl harbour (again).

victory belongs to those who believe in it the most, and believe in it the longest

some lame sentence i heard somewhere...

Friday, February 23, 2007

23rd february 2007

hopefully, if things turn out well, today will be the day my rotting stops. later on, i'll dutifully help mum with the dinner, and after dinner, go for cell. that is, if things turn out well. and hopefully tomorrow, i'll catch up with kenneth lo, and fall asleep to some investment thing, and catch a movie, even if i'll be 'all by myself' or maybe i could catch up with jay and catch letters from iwo jima- such a wonderful idea, and i had just thought of it just typing out these words...

i accompanied david tay today as he leaves for new york. i pray that God give new york good weather, and for his body to be well, that he'll be safe, that as he auditions that Lord you give him favour and bless him abundantly.

hmm... i realise increasingly that i'm more of a connector, linking people with people. a living bridge of sorts. which is really cool. maybe God meant for me this way. hee. cool.

wonder what charles is doing now...

Thursday, February 22, 2007

22nd february 2007 oh no! i've spent 2 consecutive days rotting at home!

aargh! today was another stupid day spent at home, though i managed to finish 2, and finishing up one more book. i guess days after ord will be spent largely like this, finishing up books, though i hope i'll be writing much more...

today i finished emotion machine, some paul ehrlich book, and i'm finishing freeman dyson's disturbing the universe. after a while, it seems that i can just flip through the books and take the slightest of glances to know what the book is talking about... yeah man...

i wonder if i can make it for david's flight and for cell tomorrow night. i pray i can. and then... i pray that i can get paid for giving tuition!

BORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRing dddddddddddddddddday

Wednesday, February 21, 2007

its been one heck of a boring day. 20th february 2007

yep, its what it says. its been one heck of a boring day. absolutely nothing to do but to stay at home and rot. i really need to find something to do, because i don't want the same thing to happen when i ord. today.. well, i managed to finish paul kennedy's parliament of man, about the united nations, not particularly insightful, but still useful. going through marvin minsky's emotion machine. and then... have the book buying pangs again. looking for lee smolin's life of the cosmos and kip thorne+stephen hawking's black holes and time warps - einstein's outrageous legacy...

this things just cause me to just go back and think about things, about me reading from such diverse disciplines, about what i can do knowing all these. i guess i can do some funny synergize thingy, see things that others haven't seen because they have only had such a narrow mind-view. hee....

but whatever i can boast of, boast in the Lord...

20th feb 2007 solipsistic

lately, i've been blogging just for the sake of blogging, not much else, as a little reminder of what when on in the day. been kinda dry on juice. but today, there was a lot on my mind...

toady's itineary: to melvin's home, then to big sis' home, then to tampines - david CHARLES tay's home.

hiyah... feel so awkward being in the company of melvin and sarah. haha. not really such a big deal. but as i was coming home, there was a conversation going on inside my head. i believe there were 3 characters - they are, neutral (n), solitary (s), and vulnerable (v). the conversation (as i try my best to remember it) went like this.

neutral: had a great day today, and i learnt something about myself.
solitary: what did you learn?
n: i learnt more about my loneliness again.
vulnerable: that's really nothing new.

s: yeah.

n: well, things sorta came together again.

s-how?

n-i went to the past, and then the word dissipation came up again.

s-well, we always liked to have our own way, a little bit different from others.

v-even if it brought loneliness our way.

s-but we actually liked it.

v-or sometimes bring our heart close to tears.

n-well, i realised that we want to be subtle, like invisible.

s-we're used to be like that. we always try, but it never works.

v-yeah, and it has made us more alone.

n-really? we thought we were really comfortable alone.

v-at times, but sometimes we just can't help this way. look at yourself, you're just an ordinary nerd...

s-who needs people anyway. we thought long ago that we wouldn't go the way of the world.

n-true. but maybe all these is just some training to know ourselves better.

s-whatever.

n-there is one good thing, however. because the only thing we have is the stupid brain inside, i can know for sure that any girl who comes around looking at me is only doing so because of that stupid brain, and not for looks, which should make a relationship more lasting.

v-or so thats what you think.

n-whatever.

s-who needs girls anyway? just another distraction, they don't really matter.

v-oh really??? (sarcastically)

n-hmm....
i've been sorta thinking, its really hard to live in a community. there's just so many things. so much politics.

s-that was the reason why we didn't want to stick to a community in a first place.

n-i guess people don't like the way we do things.

s-yeah, the straight in the face 'i don't care who else is there, but you gotta hear these words' kinda attitude.

v-we'll probably be the first to be voted out of Apprentice or Survivor or any of those 'reality' game shows.

n-yeah man. maybe its also some sorta training.

s-whatever. screw the family.

n- you can't say that. in the end, that's really all we've got, all other things aside.

v-what other things aside? look at your pathetic social circles. looks more like point particles to me.

s-yeah man, who cares about social circles anyway?

v-i feel so out of the loop when people start talking.

n-well, that's when people like charles and melvin look so fantastic. thank God for them! they are our anchors to the outside world. how are we to serve God otherwise? we know that pleasing people ain't our actual objective, but we could you know, treat it as a pathway, a guideline to the world out there. no man's an island...

v,s-oh well. guess you're right...

gotta sleep soon...

19th feb 2007

today has been a boring day, as usual. nothing to do, nothing done - well not really, because i watched protege, a better than average film about films. woah - druglords = warlords. hmm. not surprising anyway. and its kinda sad, but it doesn't really matter... oh well. the film only leaves me crying out for letters from iwo jima- the only film that i REALLY WANT TO WATCH. its been really, really sian, actually. arh well.

tomorrow will be great. going to friend's home and stuff. promising. hee.

Sunday, February 18, 2007

18th feb 2007

its new year's day! whatever. haha. tomorrow my parents will be flying off to china (as usual). bon voyage! as for the rest of the week, i hope i dun have to go back to camp. haha. always having this urge to read the Book. i guess that's what happens when you buy something new. but i hope the Book will always be new to me. woah.

not much else happened today, except for the usual house visits...

Saturday, February 17, 2007

17th feb 2007...

here are some reflections i thought i should put down. i guess its a very difficult fact to swallow, but its the truth - that we must die - submit to God, for God to rise and reign in all of us. and i guess this is really why its so hard, because we just don't want things that way. we want to be in control, the false illusion of control when in fact we are ever so reliant on His grace. so we all learn, to go after the heartbeat of our Father...

i've been thinking and doing more thinking, like meditating on the nature of this relationship, more than faith, hope and love. going deeper and deeper, understanding ever more, growing. woah.

the only way we know how strong our faith, our characters are, is to go through testing. only after testing do we know ourselves, know we are... without testing we would hardly know what we might be for, what suits us best...

17th feb 2007

nothing mind-blowing today, realised that my interest in books was waning. i guess thats what happens when you choose to prioritise your life choices. now i'm not that a serious reader, now i'm just reading to know, for no other purpose, or really just decreasing the tempo of my academic pursuits. the thoughts will always come and go, but the Spirit will always be here. what a wonderful day.

thinking about whether to hold prayer meetings in camp, and everything, thinking about the people to include. thinking about melvin teaching us, to build ourselves up. and to always think of the Father's heart for all of us. i shouldn't be afraid using the new bibles. cool reference niv version i got. cool. yeah man. its been really wonderful. thanks again, charles for showing me your music universe!

Friday, February 16, 2007

16th feb 2007

today was a long day, or rather, a long afternoon and evening, and its been a while since i've spent a day so thoroughly.

the day started after bookout, at around 1445. charles and i managed to squeeze into the first bus that took us OUT from 30sce and to boon lay mrt. thereafter it was just a long ride to bugis. from bugis, we went to library, sat down a bit, rested a bit, then went to kfc the one opposite bugis junction, with angus and his girlfriend cammie, whom we had met at the library. then went to bras brasah, and i stepped into their music universe and Ranking sports and music. then it was over to tecman, where i bought the bibles and some other books. spent about 70 there. then to art friend, where i bought (another) a4 sketch pad. for 13. surprised to know that charles' friends knew of my Blues of April project. hee. then it was a trek to marina square, where we met his friend, rachel, who's studying at UNSW business. and after the movie, (it was already 2200) we went to this pub called timbre, where a band was playing good music, and i left at 2250.

long wonderful day. bought the ESV and NIV. hee. thank God for charles.

Wednesday, February 14, 2007

14th feb 2007

today's just another day, except that i saw plenty of couples with roses, girls and guys dressing nearly to kill, but other than that, it ain't such a big deal.

had a great day at CITI, with charles sharing with me how much he struggled coming to 30sce as a man, about his longing to be a commander/leader. well, he's pretty much a natural leader, and i don't think you need OCS/SISPEC to be a leader. c'mon, maybe NS commanders are a little overrated, hey, even my cell leader was 'merely' a pes c soldier, so whats the big deal?

anyway, a little figment of thought.

God's love never fails, but human love might fail sometimes.

The hand holds a rose,
a symbol of Eros,
of a pining for affection,
of wanting that special someone.

Sweet chocolate fills the mouth,
longing for sweetness ever after,
of fickle love in the spring of youth,
-love- the world being thrown everywhere.

So people pine for what they think they need,
a sweet something they don't really know.
It might be lust, for all they know,
a futile attraction, bearing no fruit,
just a fling, just wanting to know,
how false love feels.

So on and on,
all the facades,
of sweet love ever after.
What happens when the rose wilts,
when the chocolate is sweet no more?
All a false love,
an emptiness never filled.

Being secure in the Lord's love - that's what matters.

Tuesday, February 13, 2007

13th feb 2007

its valentine's day tomorrow, whatever that means. oh well. whats with the celebration of eros? dots. as if we need a day to do that. yawn or maybe, just maybe, it might be sour grapes. for me, tomorrow should pass with me not really doing anything... celebrating valentine's day for the sake of love is really kinda dumb, and i won't do it even if i were to have a relationship.

arh well. went to gym today, been a while. and i'm thinking, i'm wondering how many people are there for fitness or body building. not to put down body building, but i guess there are other people who are just there to 'look good', look toned. of course, looking toned and everything should correlate to improved fitness, but i can't help wondering if their buffness betrays a weak physique. its really a mindset thing, whether people put fitness or looks first.

arh well. this week sucks.

Monday, February 12, 2007

12th feb 2007

had fate/God not let me meet/see you?

that was on my mind as i was going to withdraw money at the atm. thanks to sgt filbert who wanted to go to the bishan gym, and thanks the free weight section, which was closed, that we walked back to junction 8, that i had to buy bread, then i had to withdraw money, that allowed me to see charmaine from cj. oh well. although i found myself thinking i like her, the more i think about it, the more i should just stop there, since i most probably won't see her again, so i'll leave it at that. if she wants to find me, she can call me, and i won't ask for her no.

anyway, was thinking this thought as i washed the bowls. if DNA can be the basis for computing, and computing is a function of a turing machine, does that make DNA some sort of a turing machine? and if our dna is a turing machine, does that imply our body is a turing machine? i know our minds MIGHT be turing machines. if natural selection is based at a gene-DNA level, and if DNA are the basis of turing machines, does that make natural selection a process of computation?

this is what happens when a mind lies fallow and stops reading for a while, something like a plant that receives enough fertilizer to grow. imperfect analogy. oh well. cool day.

Thank God for Psalms.

Sunday, February 11, 2007

11th feb 2007

had a lovely night eating steamboat. woah man, i can out-eat my friends. hahaha.

anyway, was walking home from the mrt when a series of thoughts just came to me.

i now have a new surety in the Lord, knowing that my life's journey is always towards His righteousness and His love, and in so doing, i have to ACT OUT LOVE.

there's this girl whom i've been sorta attracted to, her name is Charmaine, and the more i think about it, the more i think that its some sorta test, maybe even a final test of sorts, that says that i'm ready for relationships. its a test of how willing i am to let go of people in relationships. how i am able to control myself in really letting people go, whether i had truly learnt from all my previous emotional mishaps. haha.

i am also under trial of sorts, in letting my mind turn away from books and focus on Him. And since i now know that my future is safe in Him, i don't have to rely on crappy books that i'm reading now. yeah! and now with this new confidence, i live my life with this sense of victory, in living out my victory, in living in His love and presence, in my life, in my family, with my family, with my friends...

yeah!

10th feb 2007

cell on friday was fantastic. the Father's heart. had a great time. cool. and today, i went for a relationship seminar at new creation church, and i realised that hey, i'm alright in most of these aspects. i'm cool. oh well. and i want to set aside my books for this week and direct my thoughts to God this week. dear God, let me understand Your heartbeat.

Thursday, February 08, 2007

8th feb 2007

tomorrow promises to be an exciting day, but today is already great.

been always thinking that i've been torn between many worlds, and trying to figure out how to build bridges instead. tough job.

saw this documentary about capadocia in turkey, and reminds me about this passage i read in the Word about the church in capadocia. woah. tough life it was, escaping from persecution, and God seemed to be with the early people. woah. cool.

anyway... tmr have to go back to camp for a little while sign something. sigh. but look on the upside, don't have to be at CITI. wooh!

hee...

Wednesday, February 07, 2007

now me remember 7 feb 2007

i remembered what i originally wanted to write about. was talking to edwin today during dinner, and then about victory in my family with regard to faith. the bigger the problem, the greater the victory, isn't it? and i've been.... under this kind of silent persecution for so long, if i may call it... arrgh...

7th feb 2007

had dinner with edwin. cool. armour of light?? haha.. FBO of light? hahaha

nice day. wrote a letter.

Like the Sun that Shines everyday - Hope

I'm not quite sure why I'm writing this, like those stories about inspiration – always in the toilet, but introductions aside, I guess I’m writing to honour and encourage friends, looking back to the past, giving thanks to all for the past, and for the present, and looking ahead, to have hope, always for the future that is to come.

It’s now 2007, and the cliché goes, it still seems like yesterday, still an eye-blink ago, yet it’s already seven years since I stepped into Geylang Methodist, donning that strange blue colour uniform. Was it really so long? Yes, but carefully, remember and focusing on those days, cramming for Geography (aargh!) and having fun, most of the time. When the song Graduation plays, I’m sure most of us would cry, for these moments when the future beckoned us, when it seemed so scary, when we feared that we would all be torn apart and not see each other again.

Thankfully, Singapore is a small place, and despite our complaints about bus and MRT fares, we still manage to see someone every now and then, and maybe, still very frequently, if you are studying the same university or poly course, or if you’re like me, a guy and seeing the same person almost 5 days a week.

Poly, JC, and for some of us, university, and though it seemed that there would be a tomorrow when we might be separated, these fears never materialised. True to our promises, we kept in touch, some more often than others, but always we know that you were there, and I was there, and we would always be comforted by this silent fact. We always knew, that no matter how far we all might be from each other’s circumstance, the distance between our hearts never weakened. Always, we were always intangibly by each other’s side. Though isolated, never alone.

These facts we forget often, and it leaves our memory when we need it the most; during those torturous moments of helplessness, when we are handling our everyday routines, when it seems too much was given for us to do, or when we think we’ve bitten off more than we could chew, when we broke down and declared, ‘I give up’, these moments, ought to be the moments when we realise that we are not alone – yes, we are not alone in our everyday battles. Yes, the issues that we face are ours alone, yes, we face the consequences alone, but no, we are not truly alone when we have fallen on this long journey of life. No, we are not alone when tears stream down our cheeks, and no, we are not alone when our hearts seem to have dropped into the deep dark abyss.

We all know, that we weren’t alone during trying times in the past, and even in our present circumstance, and we can trust in ourselves – let this belief take root – that we still rely on each other in times of adversity, the things yet to come in the future – like the sun that shines everyday, a hope that we can rest on, a hope that give us the strength to continue the journey, that wipes the tears from our eyes, that catches our heart from freefall, when we all can rest…

And the light of hope that we see as it shines like the sun, and we know that present circumstance aside, no matter the gloom – hope shines…

365 days to ORD! wooh! 6 feb 2007

yeah man! today.. one year on, on this very same date, i'll break free from the clutches of green! wooh! so cool... but that i'll take a while. but thank God that i've lasted this long. but anyway, the days haven't been too cruel, and despite everything, despite the shit piled onto my face, at the end of it, i guess i'm still able to smile.

the more i think about it, the more it makes more sense. maybe these moments is an immense training package on self-confidence, submissiveness, obedience... some life lessons, that perhaps God is imparting somehow. i know most people won't really believe all these, but still i choose to see...

5th feb 2007

i just want to note it down somewhere these thoughts. God created the design space from which life could arise - heck, how the whole universe could arise. He designed the parameters. Even if there are an infinite multiverse, the same rules apply, that He designed it all, and gave it all the parameters, or even the meta-parameters and so on.

i want to remember all the above, as i trudge on further, being more aware of the intellectual universe with every book i read.

and i didn't know melvin has a friendster account. lol.

4th feb 2007

i don't know whats going to happen, taking one day at a time, i guess. i've always disliked the so-called 'war' against science and religion. does it always have to be like that? sigh. i guess sitting on the fence makes people angry at you from both sides.. sigh. does it really have to be like that? sigh.
